Setting Up Your HP DeskWriter 600 Printer
The HP DeskWriter 600 is a dedicated wired printer that requires a direct physical cable connection. To successfully set up this printer, you must ensure the correct cable connection is used and that your operating system loads a compatible driver.
1. Initial Printer Setup (For All Users)
Before connecting the printer to your computer, perform these steps to prepare the hardware.
- Unpack and Prepare: Carefully remove the printer from the box and detach all protective materials, tapes, and foam inserts.
- Install Cartridges: Open the front access cover to reach the print carriage. The DeskWriter 600 primarily uses a single Black cartridge. If you purchased an optional color kit, you would swap the black cartridge out for the Tri-color cartridge whenever you needed to print in color. Insert the black cartridge firmly into the carriage slot until it snaps into place. Close the cover.
- Load Paper: Load a stack of plain paper into the input tray. Adjust the paper guides so they are snug against the sides of the paper, keeping the stack straight.
- Connect Power: Plug the power cord into the printer and a functioning electrical outlet. Press the Power button to turn the printer on.
2. Wired Connection (The Essential Step)
The DeskWriter 600 connects using either the Parallel Port (for PC/Windows) or the Serial Port (for Mac).
Connection Method A: PC/Windows (Parallel Port)
