Setting Up Your HP DeskWriter 540 Printer
The HP DeskWriter 540 is a classic inkjet printer that offers both monochrome and color printing. Since it is not a wireless model, its setup relies entirely on a physical cable connection, either a Parallel Port or a Serial Port (for Macs).
1. Initial Printer Setup (For All Users)
Follow these steps to prepare the physical printer before connecting it to your computer.
- Unbox and Prepare: Remove all external and internal packaging materials, protective tapes, and foam inserts.
- Load Cartridges: Open the front access door to reach the print carriage. The DeskWriter 540 uses a black cartridge and can optionally use a tri-color cartridge. Install the required cartridge(s) by snapping them firmly into their designated slots. Close the access door.
- Load Paper: Place a stack of plain paper into the input tray (the IN tray). Adjust the paper width guides to gently touch the sides of the paper stack.
- Connect Power: Plug the power module into the socket at the back of the printer, and the other end into a wall outlet. Press the Power button to turn the printer on.
