The HP DeskJet 1100cxi is an older wide-format inkjet printer. HP no longer provides updated drivers for modern operating systems, but you can still install and use it with built-in system drivers or alternative methods.
1. Check Connectivity
The HP DeskJet 1100cxi supports USB (via parallel-to-USB converters) or Parallel (LPT) connections depending on your unit.If using on a modern computer, you may need:
- USB-to-Parallel Adapter (IEEE 1284 to USB)
- Good-quality cable to avoid communication errors
2. Install on Windows (10 / 11 / 8.1 / 7)
Method 1 – Use Windows Built-in Driver (Recommended)
- Connect the printer via USB/Parallel–USB adapter.
- Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Click Add a Printer.
- Select The printer that I want isn’t listed.
- Choose Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.
- Select LPT1 or the USB virtual port created by your adapter.
- Under printers list, choose:
- HP (left column)
- HP DeskJet 990c or DeskJet 500 (right column)
Why? HP recommends the DeskJet 990C driver for old DeskJet models when official drivers are unavailable. It supports color, basic printing, and wide formats.
